Results of QS World University Rankings 2022: Karazin University is the Leader Among Ukrainian Universities


On June 8, 2021, the results of the QS World University Rankings 2022, the authoritative world university ranking determined by the British consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds, were published based on the analysis of 2020 indicators. By the Rankings results, Karazin University occupies the first position among Ukrainian higher educational institutions and the position 511-520 on a global scale.

In total, the ranking includes 8 Ukrainian universities:

— V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (511-520);

— Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (601–650);

— National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (651-700);

— National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (701-750);

— Sumy State University (701–750);

— Lviv Polytechnic National University (801–1000);

— Ivan Franko Lviv National University (1001+);

— National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” (1001+).

The QS World University Rankings is one of the most influential university rankings, along with the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The level of achievements of universities is assessed based on the results of a combination of statistical analysis of the activities of educational institutions, audited data (in particular, information on the citation index from the Scopus database), as well as data from a global expert survey of representatives of the international academic community and employers.

Higher education institutions are evaluated according to the following metrics:

  • academic reputation (40%);
  • citations per faculty (20%);
  • faculty/student ratio (20%);
  • employer reputation (10%);
  • international faculty/student ratio (5% each).
