Science Day: University Celebrates

On the third Saturday of May, Ukraine traditionally celebrates Science Day.

The purpose of the holiday is to honour scientific traditions, achievements of Ukrainian scientists and to remind that science is the basis of the nation’s intellectual potential and its future. It is thanks to scientists that many incurable diseases are no longer life-threatening. We have the opportunity to instantly exchange information, move around the country and the world, dive hundreds of meters underwater and conquer space. Most everyday tasks are performed by technologies, which is why people now have such an important opportunity to effectively study and work online.

On this day in all parts of the country, there are weeks of science, interesting events of school societies, the Minor Academy of Sciences, open house days in academic institutions and institutions of higher education, popular lectures of leading Ukrainian and foreign scientists, exhibitions, excursions to laboratories and museums. roundtables, presentations of innovative developments, demonstrations of popular science films, etc. This year, quarantine measures have changed traditional celebrations, but the main thing today is to remember how valuable the work of scientists is.

For more than two centuries, Karazin University scientists have been contributing significantly to the development of national and world science. Their hard work multiplies the achievements not only in science, but also shapes the intellectual capital of our country. Karazin University is the only one in Ukraine where three Nobel Prize winners studied and worked — biologist Ilya Mechnikov (whose 175th anniversary Karazin University community is celebrating this year), economist Simon Kuznets, and physicist Lev Landau.

Congratulations on the holiday and wishes of inspiration in your work, tirelessness in innovative search and conquest of new scientific heights.
