Visit of Delegation from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań

On November 5, 2019, Karazin University received a delegation from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, comprising history professors Stanisław Jankowiak, Piotr Okulevicz, Marek Mikołajczyk, and Associate Professor Agnieszka Sawicz.

The delegation’s visit was dedicated to three important occasions: the 100th anniversary of Poznań University, 215th anniversary of Karazin University, and 50 years of cooperation between the two higher education institutions.

The delegation took part in the exhibition opening at the University History Museum, which was dedicated to the development of friendly relations between the two universities. The event moderator was Director of the University’s Ukrainian-Polish Academic Center of Science and Culture, Tetian Bitkova.

Head of the International Relations Department of the University, Oleksandr Khyzhniak, welcomed the guests and the exhibition participants. He remarked that Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań was the first higher education institution Karazin University signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with. “We are very pleased that today we can share our joy with our partners and mark this event within the walls of our university,” said Oleksandr Khyzhniak.

On behalf of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv, Vice-Consul Anna Shuliakovska greeted the guests. For his part, Dean of the School of History, Serhii Lytovchenko, stressed, “Cooperation between the universities means, in the first place, the creation of a university community which has no cultural or political limits.” He also thanked everyone who participated in creating the exhibition and the collaborative research monograph presented later.

“Karazin University in Kharkiv — Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań: Fifty Years of Cooperation (1967–2017)” is a collaborative research monograph. The idea of creating it appeared a year ago. Professor Marek Mikołajczyk acquainted those present with the stages of creating the monograph, told what the three chapters of the book are dedicated to. According to the professor, from the very beginning, the authors aimed at making the book bilingual, and all the texts were translated from Ukrainian into Polish and vice versa.

The monograph covers the entire history of relations between the universities, including fact, cooperation documents, and photographs. The book also describes trips of students and faculty from Ukraine to Poland, which later turned into academic exchanges.

Deputy Director of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies, Olha Vovk, spoke on behalf of the monograph writing team from Karazin University. She told about the Karazinites’ contribution to the creation of the book.

Within the framework of the visit, the Polish history professors gave lectures at the School of History.
