Exhibition "Larger Space": Redefining of the Landscape

From June 18 till July 10, 2019, the Center for Contemporary Art YermilovCenter of Karazin University held the exhibition “Larger Space”, which is a project of the Land Art Symposium “Prostir Pokordonnia”, founded by the artist Hanna Hidora. The symposium annually takes place near Mohrytsia village of Sumska region, on the Cretaceous plateau, rich in archaeological finds, near the Scythian and Slavic settlements.

This year, 62 participants from Kharkiv, Sumy, Lviv, Uzhhorod, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv and Kyiv visited the symposium. The work of curator groups led by Yurii Vyshniakov, Oleksii Konoshenko, Vitalii Kokhan, Nataliia Matsenko was continued, and more than 40 works were created: from performances, photos, videos and chamber experiments to large-scale monumental objects.

With each new symposium, the space of Mohrytsia is expanding, in particular, installations, social interventions and photo, audio and video works were added to the already existing lend-art works and performances.

The curators of the project wanted that “Larger Space” would become the continuation of the symposium, the stage of comprehension of experience in another context. The main purpose of the exposition is to show how space becomes a big enrichment in the semantic field.

The organizers of the exhibition also offered those present to create new works that would reflect on the landscape of Mohrytsia Cretaceous plateau.
