The Student Reasearch Society of Kharkiv National University is a students’ self-governing body addressing issues of student research.

The history of student research societies at Kharkiv University dates back to the 1820s. The University Students Research Society (USRS) was established in 1936 as the only center coordinating research societies of graduate and post-graduate students and became one of the first centers of this type in the former USSR. The first President of the USRS was B.?. Krasovytskyi, now doctor of Chemistry, full professor. Since 2004, the USRS has started a new period in its activity.

Today the USRS incorporates student research societies of the 20 University Schools, which unite students involved in research at the University Departments, initiates and organizes national and international research conferences and forums for young scientists, publishes collections of research works by young researchers, who work in specialized research societies, participate in various research conferences, Olympics, contests and grant programs, establishes exchange and information centers for students, including web-sites and student newspapers, and takes an active part in the public life of the University.

On 10 November 2006, the 2nd Student Conference established the Student Council of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, a student self-governing body that presents the system of student self-government of the Schools, years, and groups. The University Student Council provides for academic work improvement, comprehensive student education, and leadership development.

The mission of the Student Council is to support students in getting good education by means of comprehensive representation of the students’ interests when taking*** administrative decisions concerning students’ life, mainly via representation of the Students Council leaders in the School and University Senates. This mechanism enables effective communication between the students and faculty, which take into account interests and needs of all parties to the academic process and is a prerequisite for the transiion to a subject-to-subject education.
