School of Philosophy

The School of Philosophy was founded in 2001. The Department of Philosophy has been part of the University since the University foundation in 1804. The first professor of the Department was Johan Baptist Schad who worked at the University in 1804-1816. He was a follower of J.G. Fichte and was recommended to the University by J.W. Goethe. In different periods of the Department’s history, its faculty included outstanding professors A. Dudrovych, F. Zelenohorskyi, S. Semkovskyi, Ya. Bludov, D.Ostryanyn, Yu. Bukhalov, O. Plakhotnyi. Students of the School are majoring in Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Valeology.

The students have their traineeship in the research laboratory of valeology at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and in valeological centers of the European network of the schools of health.

The School of Philosophy cooperates with the scientific and educational institutes of the world, the M.S.Hrushevskyi Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences; the Institute of Historical Research at I. Franko Lviv National University, and others. The School’s faculty and students take an active part in international research workshops and symposiums in Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Italy, Germany, the USA, Austria, Hungary, and Israel.
