Volodymyr Ponomarev welcomed those present and emphasized the relevance of the conference topic, the priority goal of which is to identify pressing issues and share experience for training highly-skilled specialists.

In his introductory speech, Anton Panteleimonov remarked that today psychological adaptation and rehabilitation specialists are in demand in our state.

The conference continued with the report of the Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, Neurology and Medical Psychology of the School of Medicine Diana Shtryhol “Psychosocial Approach and Strengthening the Capabilities of People Traumatized by War and of Their Families”. The speaker described the main scenarios of behavior, the psychoemotional state of the JFO soldiers, their wives and children. According to her, a psychosocial approach is effective in this situation, it combines dynamic relationships between psychological and social factors, psychological factors (thoughts, feelings, behavior, needs), social components (life goals, spirituality, economy, culture), etc.

“The purpose of psychosocial approach is to strengthen capabilities, to develop strong points so that individuals and groups can be optimally represented in the psychological, sociocultural, economic, and other spheres of life, to increase resources, to improve self-perception, to develop personal abilities, etc.,” said the speaker.

This shifts the emphasis from patients/clients’ symptoms and a diagnosis to strong points and benefits.

The conference agenda includes presentations on psychic trauma of war and its consequences for health, trauma-focused methods of treatment, modern methods of recovery from loss, supervision as a method of preventing professional burnout of specialists working with psychic trauma, etc., as well as conducting practical masterclasses.
