International Area Studies Conference of Young Researchers "Area Studies in the System of Historical Knowledge (to the 10th Anniversary of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies)"


On December 7, 2018, Karazin University held the 36th International Area Studies Conference of Young Researchers “Area Studies in the System of Historical Knowledge (to the 10th Anniversary of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies)”. The conference has been held since 1983. t is the oldest specialized youth forum in Ukraine.

The event was organized by the School of History, the Research Society of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists, P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies of Karazin University in cooperation with H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University and Kharkiv National Medical University.

During the opening, the Dean of Karazin University School of History, Serhii Lytovchenko, the Director of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies, Serhii  Kudelko, the Dean of the School of History of H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, Svitlana Miroshnichenko, welcomed the conference participants.

Within the framework of the event, a number of new historical-ethnographic editions were presented. The Associate Professor of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Archaeology of the School of History, Yevhen Rachkov, told about the implementation of the research project “Practice of Self-Representation of a Multinational City in the Industrial and Post-Industrial Era”. Olha Vovk, Deputy Director of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies, presented the exhibition “Kharkiv in the Mirror of Philately and Deltiology”.

The meetings of sections were held in ten thematic areas. For the first time in the history of youth conferences, Karazin University School of History had an English-language section “Local History in a Globalized World” attended by students and staff of Karazin University and foreign guests.

The authors of the best reports were awarded certificates and valuable gifts, Professor Anton Sliusarskyi prize and the Hero of Ukraine Petro Tronko prize. The Afanasii Luniov prize, founded by Kharkiv artist Nina Verbuk, was also awarded.
