Student Self-Government: Prospects for First-Year Students

Thousands of yesterday’s pupils are now immersed in the whirl of student life at Karazin University. The first-year students have already attended their first lectures, made their acquaintance with their lecturers and groupmates. Besides classical education, which is of course the basis for building a successful future, the University encourages its students to realize their creative potential. In the years of studies at the University Karazinites can prove themselves in research, cultural and sports life of the University as well as get involved in the work of the student self-government to try themselves as leaders and test their ability to work in a team, carry out various projects and actions, both science related and of socio-cultural nature.

In November first-year students will be celebrating their first Students’ Day but before that they have a lot of interesting and important events on the agenda. In September they will participate in the traditional First-Year Student Week organized by the Student Academic Council in order to welcome the first-year students in the University community and let them reveal their creative potential.

Participation in the work of the student self-government will help understand the specifics of university life and be introduced to the Alma Mater’s traditions formed over 200 years of its history.

The Primary Trade Union Organization of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students will offer to join in carrying out artistic and cultural and educational events, help organize summer and winter holidays, excursions about the city and the country. Its members receive, if necessary, different privileges such as financial support.

The actively operating Student Scientific Society will allow you to participate in science conferences, seminars, workshops, panel discussions and student projects on University, national and international levels.

Should any conflicts or disputes arise between students and faculty, the Student Academic Council will advocate student’s rights and monitor education quality. It also organizes a number of cultural-mass events such as: Teachers' Day, Students’ Day, 8th of March, Defender of the Fatherland Day , Days of Schools. It cooperates with the Cultural Center of the University. Student deans of the Schools actively assist students in preparations for Alma Mater and Miss University contests and conduct the University open club of the Merry and the Smart.

The Student Council of the Student Quarter, whose activity is aimed at ensuring and defending rights and interests of the dormitories residents as well as at ensuring that the latter fulfill their duties, will held first-year students who have come to study at the University from other cities and countries to adapt to the new conditions.

Everyone willing can join the self-governing bodies of the University. Yu are welcome to join as well in order to make your student years unforgettable!
