Presentation of Open Online Course "Academic Integrity: Challenges, Actions, Success Stories"

Karazin University held a presentation of the open online course “Academic Integrity: Challenges, Actions, Success Stories” prepared within the project “Development of New Electronic Instruments for Promoting Academic Integrity in Ukrainian Universities”, supported by the US Embassy in Ukraine.

The presentation was attended by the University President, Vil Bakirov, President of the International Charitable Foundation “International Foundation for Educational Policy Research”, Taras Finikov, member of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance Artem Artiukhov, University administration, faculty and students, representatives of Kharkiv higher education institutions.

During the presentation, Taras Finikov noted that the prerequisites for the creation of a massive open online course were not always positive changes in the ethical field of higher education, a general decline of academic standards of the national higher education, and cases of academic dishonesty.

Those present learned that the course is not academic and does not offer consistency in studying topics. It is based on approaches and ideas, the best examples of international and national practices in ensuring academic integrity. It is convenient that you can study independently or in groups.

The main goal of the online course is to promote principles and behavioral models based on academic integrity both in the educational and scientific space and in other related areas.

Artem Artiukhov told about the structure of the online course materials. In particular, he noted that a theoretical and practical unit containing cases, role plays, essays, surveys, and the final task were prepared for users. One of the peculiarities is that the course includes characters who help the course participants to better learn the material. Currently, the course is available through test access, so those willing can view the materials at the link.

The event also presented the “Academic Integrity” website which will include both the above-mentioned open online course and various informational and educational materials.
