Presentation of Jean Monnet Module "EU Foreign Policy" Project


On October 4, 2018, Karazin University held a presentation of the Jean Monnet Module “EU Foreign Policy” project to be implemented with financial support from the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission, at the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business during 2018-2021.

The project coordinator, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law of the School of Law, Alina Cherviatsova, addressed those present in her welcoming speech, “Karazin University currently offers four Jean Monet programs: at the School of Law, School of History, School of Ecology, School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business. The Jean Monnet module is an educational course on the problems of European integration. During the course, we will talk about foreign policy of the European Union. At the end of the project, students will receive certificates confirming knowledge in this field.”

During his report, the Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business Valerii Rieznikov said, “The first step towards the creation of the European Union was an economic component, so we also have to study this topic. At present, Ukraine is implementing reforms on the way to the European community.” The lecturer said that 2017 can be considered successful for Ukrainian export.

The Head of the Department of International Relations, International Information and Security of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business, Liudmyla Novikova, told the participants about the program, in particular, she pointed out that the duration of the EU Foreign Policy course is 120 academic hours of lectures and seminars and that it covers the whole academic year. The project will address a number of important issues, including the nature of the EU foreign policy, the EU neighborhood policy, human rights, rule of law, fight against terrorism, common foreign and security policy, trade, development and other external activities, EU external economic policy, etc.

The Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations, International Information and Security of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business Olena Dotsenko told about the teaching staff of the project, “The team has a broad geography: from the University faculty to foreign instructors from Italy, Finland, Turkey, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. The experience of their work is associated with several countries, therefore you will have the opportunity to adopt knowledge of both law and political sciences of different countries, in particular the European region,”

At the end, those present had an opportunity to ask questions to the coordinators.
