Karazin University Presents a Unique Mono Performance "Vitalius"

On September 11, 2018, Karazin University held the mono performance “Vitalius” of Mykola Kulish Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater.

The Head of the Unlimited Opportunities public organization, graduate of the School of Sociology, Maryna Lytovchenko, welcomed those present.

The mono performance “Vitalius” is based on the play by the contemporary Estonian playwright and director Andrus Kivirähk “The Rooster of the Hornbook”.

The uniqueness of the play is that the leading role is played by Vitalii Pronko, one of the few Ukrainian professional actors with disabilities.

The audience watches the monologue of a boy with mental health problems who is telling the story of his life and speaking about his likes and dislikes. He is about 30 years old, but he behaves like a 10-year-old child. He lives alone in the apartment and spends all the time near the window. He knows where his neighbors go, when they return and how long they are absent. Later, the audience understands that the boy is sitting and looking in the window for a purpose — he helps his uncle Paul rob apartments. Vitalius himself is not fully aware of what he is actually involved in and naively believes that he is doing the right thing.

The lead character of the play is a sincere, kind, trusting person who is eager to be helpful. He is happy with any communication and care.

The play raises questions about the interaction of the lead character with society that does not accept him, does not take him seriously and even take advantage of his “childish” naivety.
