On July 3–14, 2018, Romania hosted the annual International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) with 594 high schoolers from more than 100 countries participating.

By the results of the contest, three gold medals were won by Nho Nhok Tkhai Shon, Roman Sarapin, who graduated from Kharkiv Physics and Mathematics Lyceé No. 27, and the pupil of Kharkiv Educational Complex No. 45 “Academic Gymnasium” Illya Koval. Besides, the pupil of the Lyceé No. 27 Alina Harbuzova received a silver medal.

The national team brilliantly performed at the Olympiad winning the fourth team place. This is the best result for all the years of Ukraine’s independence. Previously, Ukraine’s best result at the International Mathematical Olympiad was the sixth place won in 2014, 2007 and 1997.

The winners of this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad in Romania gave the first priority to the School of Mathematics and Informatics of Karazin University when submitting their applications.

Congratulations on their victory, and wishes of further achievements and new accomplishments in the University life!
