Karazin University Participates in Kharkiv History Night

On the night of March 3–4, 2018, Kharkiv Regional Philharmonic hosted the Kharkiv History Night, which bought together those interested in the history and present of our city.

Karazin University was one of the event co-organizers.

During twelve lectures on various pages of Kharkiv’s history, those present had an opportunity to know and better understand the city’s past and its influence on today’s Kharkiv.

Maryna Hryhorieva, a historian and expert of the Advertising and Branding of the University Center for Public Relations, told about the role of a classical university in Kharkiv city space. She said that the opening of the University gave a great impetus to the development of our city. In her lecture, she described Karazin University places of memory — buildings, memorial plaques and monuments— and how they were perceived in the XIX century and nowadays.

Iryna Kobzar, an actress of Taras Shevchenko Kharkiv Theater, spoke about the Ukrainian drama.

The Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language of Kharkiv Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy for Public Administration Under the President of Ukraine, Vasyl Tereshchenko, acquainted those present with the spelling tradition of the Ukrainian language, in particular, about the implementation of Kharkiv spelling.

The lecture by the manager of the Kharkiv History Night project, Anton Bondariev, was on Kharkiv of the XIX — early XX century as viewed by the contemporaries and on debunking fables and legends about Sloboda Ukraine.

In addition, the guests of the event heard the interesting lectures “Tribunal, oppressions, searches — the Bolsheviks’ first steps in Kharkiv”, “How Kharkiv was abandoned to the enemy in March 1943”, and others.

The next Kharkiv History Night is scheduled for May 2018.
