Open House Day at Karazin University

Karazin University has held its Open House Day, the second one in the current academic year: the applicants spoke with the administration of the University, its schools, departments, and with representatives of the Admissions Committee, watched films about the University, got acquainted with the schools’ activities.

The Acting University President, Vil Bakirov, welcomed future students and told them about the history, structure and activities of the University, “Kharkiv University has a long and glorious history with many great names, among whom are the winners of the highest scientific award — the Nobel Prize — physicist Lev Landau, biologist Ilya Mechnikov, economist Simon Kuznets. This shows that Karazin University is a classical educational establishment that teaches almost all fundamental disciplines fully covering the study of the Universe. The University has a developed student self-government. Its students are not passive recipients of knowledge, but active subjects of the academic process. We always take into account their suggestions, remarks and advice.” He also pointed out that Karazin University ranks high in all-Ukrainian and world ratings and is a world-class university.

The Dean of the School of Physics and Technology, Ihor Hirka, focused on the significant contribution of the University scientists to the development of physics in Ukraine as a whole and in Kharkiv in particular, and emphasized the high level of preparation of Karazin University students.

“Our University has a wide range of schools — physical, mathematical, natural, social and humanitarian — that can answer the two main questions — ‘what is possible?’ and ‘what is it worth?’. If you choose Karazin University to study at these schools, you will show a wonderful taste,” said the Dean of the School of Philosophy, Ivan Karpenko.

In his turn, the Director of the Center for Public Relations, Maksym Folomieiev, presented a specialized website for applicants — Admissions, which contains all the information necessary for entering — Admission Rules, abstracts of academic programs with the list of entrance examinations and necessary certificates of the External Independent Assessment, etc.

The Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee, Olha Anoschenko, acquainted those present with the peculiarities of entering the University in 2018. She outlined the stages of the admissions campaign, the specifics of enrolling applicants. According to her, this year applicants will be allowed to apply for no more than seven state order places and for no more than four majors, taking into account full-time and part-time programs. She also said that  the number of applications for contract places can be unlimited.

At the end, those present met with the schools’ deans and representatives and had an opportunity to ask questions about the peculiarities of the academic process within a particular major and to learn about the history and structure of the schools.
