Visa-Free Regime Between Ukraine and EU Countries: Guidelines for Students, Faculty and Staff

The Council of the European Union’s decision on the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU countries came into force on June 11, 2017. This enables Ukrainian citizens to make short-term trips (up to 90 days) to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Spain, Italy, the Republic of Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Finland, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Sweden without a usual visa.

The only mandatory condition for visa-free travels is having an international biometric passport of a citizen of Ukraine. In addition, when travelling, one needs to have documents confirming the purpose of the trip and the terms of staying in the EU, sufficient financial resources to cover the whole stay and the return trip to the place of residence. And, of course, you cannot be on the list of people prohibited from entering the EU.

Holders of old international passports can stay in the European Union only if they have a valid visa.

The new travel order offers new opportunities for academic mobility as it enables students and faculty to expand their search for business partners, attend seminars, research conferences and symposia in Europe, and for tourism as it makes visiting relatives and pursuing other personal purposes easier.
